What’s the price of a custom suit?
When people ask about the price of a custom suit, they are rarely just asking for a number. More often, they are trying to understand what drives the cost and what distinguishes one offering from another in a crowded market. Without that context, pricing alone is meaningless.
At B. Kreps, suits created through our bespoke process start at $1,295. That entry point reflects a fully bespoke approach, not a scaled or simplified version of the process. Every client receives the same level of attention, pattern development, and craftsmanship regardless of their choice of fabric or details.
Fabric is the main determinant of price.
What most strongly influences the final price of a custom suit is the cloth itself. Fabric affects how a suit feels on the body, how it performs in different climates, and how it holds up over years of wear. Practical Italian wools are well suited to daily use, while more exclusive English or Italian fabrics may offer superior softness, lighter weight, or a more expressive drape. As materials become more specialized or rare, the cost rises accordingly. What does not change is the way the suit is fitted or made.
The B. Kreps Bespoke Process
Every suit begins with a fitting using a try-on garment. This step is central to the B. Kreps process. It allows posture, balance, shoulder angle, and movement to be evaluated directly on the body rather than inferred from numbers alone. During this session, roughly thirty individual fit points are identified and recorded. These observations form the basis for a personal pattern drafted specifically for the client.
Once the pattern is finalized, the suit is cut from the bolt of cloth in our Amsterdam atelier. It is not modified from a stock template or assembled from standardized components. After construction, the garment returns to Houston for a fitting, where any final refinements are completed in-house. Each adjustment is documented so future garments build on what has already been established. From initial fitting to delivery, the process typically spans five to six weeks.
So what are you really paying for? You are paying for a suit that reflects how you move and live, not an approximation based on averages. In a landscape filled with loosely defined “custom” options, B. Kreps remains Houston’s only true full-service bespoke tailor. The most direct way to understand the value behind the price is to come in for a fitting and experience the process yourself.
